What to expect

How our advice process works

Unhurried, transparent, and built around one principle: understand first, recommend second. Here's exactly what happens at each stage.

A relaxed initial conversation — free, no obligation

We start with a chat by phone, or face to face at your home if you prefer. You tell me what you'd like to achieve — more income, home improvements, repaying a mortgage, helping family — and I'll explain, in broad terms, the kinds of routes that might apply. No paperwork, no commitment, and no cost.

A thorough fact find

If you'd like to go further, we complete a detailed picture of your situation: income and pensions, savings and investments, your property, your health, your family circumstances and your longer-term plans. This step is not a formality — it's the foundation of good advice, and it's why I never recommend a product in the first conversation.

Exploring every option

With the full picture, I assess all the routes on the alternatives page — downsizing, RIO and retirement mortgages, remortgaging, savings, family assistance and later life lending — alongside equity release. Options that don't fit are ruled out for stated reasons, not quietly ignored.

A clear, written recommendation

You receive a plain-English recommendation explaining what I suggest and why — including what I considered and rejected. If equity release features, you'll get a personalised illustration showing exactly how the plan would work, what it costs, and how it affects your estate over time. Any fees are set out clearly before you commit to anything.

Time to think — and family welcome

There is never a deadline. I actively encourage you to share the recommendation with your children or anyone you trust, and they're welcome to join meetings and ask questions. Good decisions survive scrutiny; I'd rather you take a month than feel rushed for a minute.

You decide — and I handle the rest

Proceed, pause, or decide it's not for you: all three are good outcomes. If you go ahead, I manage the application, liaise with the lender and solicitors, and keep you informed through to completion — and I remain your point of contact afterwards.

A note on independence of mind: I only recommend equity release when it genuinely appears to be the most suitable solution after understanding your circumstances. If something else serves you better, that's what you'll hear — even when it means less work for me. That's the standard I'd want for my own parents, and it's the one you'll get.
